Research at the Faculty

At the Faculty of Wood Engineering, modern methods and approaches of wood technology-oriented material research and development, process technology-oriented processes along the operational and industrial value chains as well as product development are linked. Thereby, wood and wood-analogous raw materials are further developed into novel materials and products in a sustainable, use-oriented and resource-efficient way in order to meet the broad, high-performance and modern requirement profile for products made of renewable raw materials as well as to achieve a sequestration of carbon dioxide in parallel.

Research priorities at the department are in:

  • Materials research and development in relation to wood and wood-analogous materials,
  • Treatment and processing of wood and wood-based materials,
  • Product and process development,
  • component and material testing,
  • Wood anatomy and wood pathology,
  • wood construction and software programming.

The research around wood as a material is covered by a technically competent team of extremely dedicated employees.

There are numerous partnerships with industry, universities & research institutions.
